Seasonal Cleaning in San Diego - A Room-by-Room Guide

San Diego's near-perfect weather means we spend more time indoors and outdoors than most. But that also means dust, pollen, and coastal salt buildup happen quietly all year long. A thorough seasonal reset keeps your home fresh, healthy, and comfortable.

Here's how our team approaches a full-home refresh, room by room.

Kitchen

The kitchen sees the most daily activity. Focus on the buildup that gets overlooked.

  • Appliances: Pull out the refrigerator and stove to clean underneath and behind. Wipe down interior surfaces, including the drip pans on your stove.
  • Cabinets: Wipe down cabinet fronts and handles. Don't forget the tops, they collect a surprising amount of greasy dust.
  • Vent hood: Remove and soak the filter in hot, soapy water. Scrub the hood surface.
  • Sink: Deep-clean the sink with baking soda and vinegar, then polish fixtures.
  • Backsplash: Pay attention to grout lines behind the stove, a stiff brush and mild cleaner work wonders.

Living Areas

  • Baseboards & trim: Run a dry microfiber cloth to remove dust, then wipe with a damp cloth.
  • Window coverings: Vacuum blinds with the brush attachment, or toss washable curtains in the laundry.
  • Ceiling fans: Use an old pillowcase to trap dust as you wipe each blade.
  • Under furniture: Move sofas and chairs. You'll be surprised what you find.

Bedrooms

  • Mattress: Vacuum the mattress surface, then spot-clean any stains. Sprinkle baking soda, let sit, then vacuum again.
  • Closet: Pull everything out. Donate what you haven't worn in a year. Wipe down shelves and vacuum the floor before putting things back.
  • Behind the bed: It's a dust magnet. Pull the bed frame away and clean thoroughly.

Bathrooms

  • Grout & caulk: Scrub grout lines with a stiff brush. Re-caulk if you see peeling or mildew.
  • Showerhead: Fill a bag with vinegar, tie it around the showerhead, let it soak overnight, then run the water.
  • Under the sink: Pull everything out. Wipe down the cabinet interior, check for leaks, and reorganize.

Bonus: Coastal Home Tips

San Diego's coastal humidity can accelerate mildew growth. We recommend:

  1. Run bathroom fans during and for 20 minutes after showers.
  2. Keep interior doors open between rooms when possible to promote airflow.
  3. Use dehumidifiers in basements or ground-level rooms.
  4. Wipe down windowsills regularly, condensation attracts dust and mold.
